Swachh Diwali: What is ‘Swachh Diwali, Shubha Diwali’ presented by Centre…?
Swachh Diwali: The Diwali festival will arrive in four days. With this… every family in India is immersed in the excitement of the festival. The center has come up with another great idea for this long-awaited celebration. This Diwali, cleanliness is not limited to homes, but entire communities will come together to ensure that streets, markets and surrounding areas are spotless, setting the stage for a joyous and natural festival.
As part of this ritual, unused items are replaced with new ones. In keeping with this tradition, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has launched ‘Swachh Diwali, Shubh Diwali’ campaign as an integral part of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0. It will start on November 6 and continue until November 12. The ‘Swachh Diwali, Shubh Diwali’ campaign seeks to combine the cultural significance of Diwali with the journey of Swachh Bharat, lifestyle principles for the environment (Mission Life). The campaign reminds us of the importance of cleaning during the holidays. The Swachh Diwali Shub Diwali campaign aims to inculcate a sense of environmental and social responsibility among people by creating awareness and motivating them to choose locally made products. This emphasizes the importance of avoiding single-use plastic items. Apart from this, it promotes cleanliness before and after Diwali.
People can take the Clean Diwali Pledge online to participate in the campaign. Thus, committing ourselves to a clean and green Diwali. After taking the pledge, citizens are encouraged to actively participate in Green Diwali by avoiding single-use plastic products during the festive season. To further spread the message of Clean Diwali, participants will share their sustainable Diwali practices on social media using the hashtag Swachh Diwali. So far, 29,640 citizens have pledged for a greener and cleaner Diwali this year.
In terms of pledge share, Maharashtra leads with 23 per cent, Andhra Pradesh with 14.4 per cent and Uttar Pradesh with 13.3 per cent. As the campaign gains momentum, citizens from many other states are also joining the pledge, reinforcing the eco-conscious message during the holiday season. Young people between the ages of 20 and 45 are actively participating in this campaign to celebrate a clean and green Diwali with their loved ones. A small contribution can be made to control the growing pollution. But little by little other states are also joining this rule. Internet users comment on social networks that this policy promoted by the Ministry of MoHUA is very good.
