Jagan weird logic behind naming the university after YSR!
The controversy surrounding the name change from NTR Health University to YSR Health University has now reached the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. The ruling party introduced the bill seeking the name change and given the majority enjoyed by the YSRCP in the chamber, the bill passed amid chants from members of the Telugu Desam Party.
Speaking of the decision, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made a strange analysis to support his move. He credited his father YSR with bringing many initiatives in the health sector that benefited the poor and that is why he decided to name the YSR University.
Jagan said that during his father’s regime three medical colleges were established and he brought good initiatives such as Aarogyasri and 108 services and felt it would be appropriate to change the name to that of the former Chief Minister.
Jagan’s weird logic doesn’t make sense. If bringing initiatives is the criteria for naming the University after YSR, then it should be named after Satyam Ramalinga Raju when he started the 108 ambulance services initiative. Inspired by the 911 emergency services in the US, Raju came up with the idea of ambulance services. .
But YSR got the credit, and Jagan cites ambulance services as a reason for changing the university’s name. In addition to this, the Chief Minister said that his father is a doctor by profession before becoming Chief Minister and he understands the difficulties faced by the poor.
If taking initiatives for the poor is the parameter to change the name of the University, then there are many Chief Ministers who took many initiatives. NTR name aside, people like Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, Damodaram Sanjivayya and Jalagam Vengala Rao started many initiatives to benefit the poor. But Jagan chooses his father’s name.
Jagan praised his father for bringing medical schools as if the other chief ministers did not bring medical schools. Although NTR planned and built the University of Health, Jagan ignored the facts and said that he made this decision after much thought and reflection. The analysis that Jagan mentioned on this has some flaws.
